Review: Trader Joe's Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Review: Trader Joe's Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Overall Rating = 🍕🍕🍕 (3/5)

I’ve made a Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Pizza Crust recipe before, but I haven’t done a review on the crust alone. I thought that making a different pie with fewer ingredients would allow me to better judge the flavor and texture of Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Pizza Crust — and I was right.

Unfortunately, the frozen cauliflower crust didn’t rock my world, but if you’re in a pinch, it’s a good gluten-free pizza crust alternative. The texture is a little too mealy for me and the taste isn’t anywhere close to real pizza crust. You know you’re eating cauliflower with some corn starch to hold it all together. I thought the crust tasted bland and didn’t have much flavor.

Also, when you slice the pizza, all the ingredients slide right off! It could have been because it was still a little too hot, but I had this problem last time … it just became a big pile of mush when I tried to put it on my plate.

On the package, it says you can cook it a bit longer for a crispy crust, but I found it to be pretty soft. A little crispy on the outside. My final verdict: I’d opt for a different premade pizza from Trader Joe’s if you’re looking for a delicious pie to enjoy at home. However, if you’re gluten intolerant and don’t have any other options, it’s worth a shot.

Is Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Pizza Crust healthy?

Trader Joe’s does a good job when it comes to offering healthy-ish frozen foods. I appreciate the simple ingredient list of the cauliflower pizza crust: cauliflower, corn flour, water, cornstarch, potato starch, olive oil and salt. That’s it!

Trader Joe's Cauliflower Crust Nutrition Facts

Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Pizza Crust Nutrition

Simple ingredient list for the win!

There are 80 calories per serving in the crust — 6 servings total — 480 calories for the entire pizza (without toppings, of course). There’s no fat, cholesterol and minimal carbs in the pizza. The sodium content is low for a frozen pizza crust as well. When you look at the nutrition label, there doesn’t seem to be much in the crust … maybe that’s why it doesn’t taste like much!

To truly taste the pizza crust this time, I made a Margherita pizza using Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Crust. Here’s the recipe — enjoy!

The slice disaster

I hate that I don’t love Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Crust … I really wanted to. I love almost everything they make (check out this simple Trader Joe’s homemade pizza recipe if you buy the garlic pizza dough!). But I’ve got to be honest. It’s my pizza blogging duty.

Have you tried Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Pizza Crust? Did you like it? (No shame if you do!) Let me know in the comments below. Until next time, happy pizza eating!
