Trader Joe's Broccoli and Kale Pizza Crust Review & Recipe

Trader Joe's Broccoli and Kale Pizza Crust Review & Recipe

Overall Rating = 🍕🍕🍕🍕 (4/5)

It’s green, it’s gluten-free and it’s great tasting! Trader Joe’s Broccoli and Kale pizza crust surprisingly did not disappoint. I liked it much better than Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Pizza Crust (my advice, get this crust instead).

If you’re looking for a healthier pizza night option, this crust is a great alternative to regular wheat flour varieties that are high in calories, fat and added preservatives. Check out my Trader Joe’s Broccoli and Kale pizza crust review along with a simple and quick pizza recipe you can make tonight. Enjoy!

I must admit, I was hesitant to try this product after not loving the cauliflower crust — but I was in for a pleasant surprise. I think the key might be broiling the crust and making it extra crispy! The flavor is nice and light so you don’t feel like you’re being force-fed broccoli and kale. The perfect way to incorporate a few more vegetables for kiddos if you need to disguise them in pizza form.

I’m also a firm believer in making simpler recipes to really bring out the flavor in all your ingredients. I used to pile my pizzas high with extra vegetables, but I realized it was just too many things going on at once. Keep it simple and you’ll be in for a wonderful, tasty meal.

Nutrition Facts

Trader Joe’s Broccoli and Kale Pizza Crust contains 70 calories per 1/6 of the pizza, .5 grams of fat, 15 grams of carbs, no added sugar and 1 gram of protein. Not bad! It’s also gluten-free and made without eggs or milk (although, it states there may be traces of milk in the product so unfortunately, it’s not vegan, but it’s an excellent vegetarian option!). If you’re like me and usually eat half of a pizza, the crust contains around 210 calories.

For those on the keto diet, this pizza is not for you unless you only stick to one slice and use high-fat toppings. It will basically put you at your carb limit for the day if you’re on a strict keto diet.

Pesto and Pepper Pizza Recipe Featuring Trader Joe’s Broccoli and Kale Pizza Crust

Make this simple and delicious pizza tonight! I recommend splitting it with a friend, your partner or anyone else. Or, enjoy it all to yourself. Bonus points for saving half of it for lunch the next day — and if you don’t — bonus points for eating it all!

Servings: 2

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: 25 minutes

Total time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • Trader Joe’s Broccoli and Kale Pizza Crust

  • 1 tablespoon Pesto

  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil

  • 1 bell pepper, sliced into thin strips (we did a mix of different colors for fun)

  • 1 small wedge of Ricotta Salata

  • 3 Fresh basil leaves

  • Italian seasoning to taste

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Alessi Balsamic Reduction (optional, but highly recommend!)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees

  • Take out Trader Joe’s Broccoli and Kale Pizza and place upside down on a lined baking sheet with parchment paper

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes (I opted to bake for 11 min)

  • Flip the crust (be careful so it doesn’t break apart!) and bake for another 10-12 minutes

  • Turn oven to broil setting

  • Broil for another 3-5 minutes (recommend just a few minutes if you notice the crust is browning)

  • Then, remove from the oven and drizzle olive oil and pesto on crust.

  • Place strips of bell pepper and basil on top

  • Break up cheese and place around pizza crust

  • Season with Italian seasoning, salt and pepper to your liking

  • Return to the oven (still on broil) and broil for 5 minutes

  • Remove from oven and let cool for 2 minutes

  • Drizzle with balsamic glaze if you desire

  • Enjoy!

Trader Joe’s pizza crust FTW!

Trader Joe’s pizza crust FTW!

I think the key to making this pizza crust taste amazing was that we really made it crispy by broiling it for the extra time. I think had we not done that, the texture would be more mealy.

Overall, I really liked it and I would buy it any day over the cauliflower crust. I want to experiment with making a more classic pie like a Margherita pizza on this crust. Let me know if you’ve tried any other recipes.
