O, That Was Disappointing - Oprah Pizza Review
Overall Rating = 🍕🍕 (2/5)
Guys — I’m being pretty bold here. I’m giving my honest opinion of Oprah’s pizza — and it’s not a very good one. Sigh. O, That’s Good!, a new line of pizzas created by queen Oprah herself, didn’t hit the spot. Read on for my Oprah pizza review.
It was a Friday night. My girlfriend and I were ready to eat some pizza, drink some wine and watch some Netflix (the Goop reality show is kind of amazing). So, I grab a pizza out of my freezer that I’d picked up a few weeks prior: O, That’s Good! — a new line of pizzas from Oprah featuring a cauliflower crust.
If you’ve read my Caulipower pizza review, you know that I love a good cauliflower crust. I was excited to see what this pizza had in store. Naturally, I did a quick nutrition check before reading the cooking instructions.
Is Oprah’s pizza healthy?
The nutrition facts are comparable to most frozen pizzas — nothing to write home about. The first ingredient is enriched wheat flour … it’s not until a list of other ingredients that you finally get to cauliflower puree. And the stats aren’t that great either — sure, there’s a bit more fiber than you’d probably find in an average crust, but the calories and fat are still pretty high.
Oprah’s pizza contains 320 calories per serving (a serving is noted as 1/5 of the pizza — who really only eats 1/5?), 13 grams of fat (4.5 comes from saturated fat, the bad stuff), and 38 grams of carbs. There are 14 grams of protein per serving (to be expected from the cheese) and 4 grams of dietary fiber. So I guess if you were to only eat 1/5 of the pizza and pair it with some greens or a salad, it could make a relatively nutritious meal. But again, who really only eats 1/5 of a pizza?
Let’s forget if Oprah’s pizza is healthy or not — and get to the main event: How does it taste?
We cooked the pizza in the oven per the cooking instructions — when we took it out of the oven, I must admit, it looked pretty dang delicious. But looks can be deceiving.
After taking 500 pictures for my blog, it was time for the moment of truth: To judge Oprah’s pizza.
Overall, the pizza left something to be desired. It reminded me of a DiGiorno pizza but less flavorful. The pepperoni was uncured (fewer preservatives), which I do appreciate, but the texture was odd. It had plenty of cheese, but the crust tasted bland. For a frozen pizza that featured cauliflower crust, this one missed the mark.
I know that there are other Oprah pizzas out there — maybe one without cauliflower crust will taste better — but I think I’ll wait a bit to try another one. Thank god wine and Netflix saved our Friday night.
